Ballarat Chinese History

Access info

This exhibition delves into the rich history of the Chinese community in Ballarat, with a particular focus on the archway they constructed. In 1901, coinciding with the establishment of the Commonwealth Government of Australia, the Chinese community came together to raise funds and build an Arch in Ballarat East for welcoming visiting England Royal family.

The exhibition materials, meticulously gathered by Paul, encompass a wealth of texts and rare photographs. These have been thoughtfully curated into exhibition panels and video recordings, which will be showcased and screened in the library. Through this exhibition, they aim to provide you with a profound understanding of the unique history of the Chinese people in Ballarat, allowing you to appreciate their struggles and contributions during that pivotal era.
