Basketry workshop for adults as part of the Craft Lab in Ballarat.
In this workshop you are invited to use recycled patterned fabrics and raffia to begin a small decorative coiled basket. We will start by making string with fabric lengths, will be coiled using a buttonhole stitch. The tutor will demonstrate how to finish the basket and provide a handout so that participants are confident to complete their basket in their own time.
String making and coiling are both techniques that can be continued at home once you learn the basics. String making in particular is a relaxing thing to do at the end of the day and resulting cordage can be used for a myriad of things around the house and garden. String can be used to tie a tomato plant to a stake or wrap a present for a friend, the possibilities are endless.
Jodie Goldring is a notorious gleaner, Artist, and Teacher who has a broad range of creative experiences to share. All materials are included, but if you have some special patterned fabric you want to use bring it along.
