Guided Tour of the Magical Elms

Visit eight amazing elms from the Wedding Elm Trees to the Mad Hair Elm, Dutch Elm, Cornish Elm and Frosty Elm.

Elm trees have been linked to the mystical underworld and for early settlers to Ballarat it was popular tree to plant.

Learn more about the vast varieties of elms and become acquainted with these rare and grand specimens. Hosted by the Friends of the Gardens Guides.

Accessibility Information
  • Does not cater for people with access needs.
  • The Ballarat Botanical Gardens are situated opposite Lake Wendouree. There is accessible parking at both ends of the garden. The terrain is flat making it easily accessible to wheelchair & mobility device users as well as slow walkers. The surface of the paths through the gardens is either asphalt or fine, hard packed gravel. There is some edging around the gardens that may require a step up. Seating is provided at regular intervals throughout the gardens, and there is a wheelchair accessible drinking fountain. Accessible toilets are provided at both ends of the garden adjacent to the accessible parking areas, including a Changing Places facility.
