Ballarat born harpist Anna Macak represents a new generation of young artists shaped within a city rich in cultural and musical heritage. At just 11 years of age, her playing reflects both disciplined study and a deep sensitivity to the character and history of the spaces in which she performs.
Anna’s musical journey began at the age of two on the violin, before she found her true voice on the harp. At five, she commenced her studies with Dr Jacinta Dennett in Ballarat, beginning a path of steady dedication that has seen her achieve consistent Honours and High Distinctions in her AMEB examinations.
In 2026, Anna was awarded the Stubbs Roberts Award by the Ballarat Arts Foundation in recognition of her musical excellence and contribution to the local arts community. Alongside formal performances, she shares her music in more intimate settings, including care homes and community spaces, continuing a long-standing tradition of music as a means of connection and storytelling.
Performing on her Aoyama Princess Sakura concert pedal harp, Anna brings a timeless quality to her music, an instrument whose history stretches back centuries, echoing traditions that resonate strongly within heritage settings. Her performances across Ballarat, including appearances at the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Ballarat Heritage Festival, reflect a growing connection between young artistry and the city’s enduring cultural identity.
